Medical Therapy

When appropriate, lifestyle pillars are seamlessly integrated with FDA-approved anti-obesity medications.

Medications are not used as standalone solutions, but as tools that enhance the effectiveness of behavior change, nutrition therapy, and physical activity—improving adherence, reducing physiological barriers, and supporting long-term outcomes.

Pillar 4: Medical Therapy

Evidence-Based Pharmacologic Support

Anti-obesity medications can play a critical role in treating obesity as a chronic medical condition—particularly when lifestyle interventions alone are insufficient due to biological, hormonal, or metabolic factors.

At Pillars 4 Life, medications are prescribed thoughtfully and selectively, always in conjunction with behavior modification, nutrition therapy, and physical activity. The goal is not rapid weight loss, but improved adherence, reduced physiological barriers, and sustainable long-term outcomes.

Medications we May Utilize

Phentermine

A short-term appetite suppressant that can support early momentum by reducing hunger and improving focus on behavioral change. When used appropriately and monitored closely, phentermine can be an effective tool to initiate weight loss and reinforce foundational habits.

Qsymia® (phentermine/topiramate)

A combination medication that addresses both appetite and satiety. Qsymia may be considered for patients who benefit from more sustained appetite control and support with portion regulation and impulse-driven eating behaviors.

Contrave® (naltrexone/bupropion)

Targets the neurological pathways involved in cravings, emotional eating, and reward-driven food behaviors. Contrave is particularly helpful for patients whose weight challenges are closely tied to food urges and behavioral patterns.

Vyvanse® (lisdexamfetamine)

May be used in select patients, particularly those with binge-eating behaviors, to improve impulse control and reduce episodes of loss-of-control eating. Its role is to support behavioral consistency rather than replace lifestyle intervention.

Wegovy® (semaglutide - WEEKLY INJECTIBLE)

A GLP-1 receptor agonist that enhances satiety, reduces appetite, and slows gastric emptying. Wegovy can significantly reduce biological resistance to weight loss, allowing patients to engage more effectively with nutrition and behavior strategies.

Wegovy® (semaglutide - DAILY ORAL)

A GLP-1 receptor agonist that enhances satiety, reduces appetite, and slows gastric emptying. Wegovy can significantly reduce biological resistance to weight loss, allowing patients to engage more effectively with nutrition and behavior strategies.

Zepbound® (tirzepatide - WEEKLY INJECTIBLE)

A dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist that offers advanced metabolic and appetite regulation. Zepbound may be appropriate for patients with significant weight-related metabolic dysfunction and can provide powerful physiologic support when integrated with comprehensive lifestyle care.
